Largest Aquariums in the World

Although some aquarists have built aquariums that hold hundreds of gallons, the most typical size for a home aquarium tank is probably 29 or 30 gallons. The size of a public aquarium can often exceed that of a home aquarium. However, only a few are huge enough to include on our list of the world's largest aquariums. the kind of aquarium big enough to house manta rays and whale sharks. These kinds of water animals require a very huge tank to accommodate them.

We have examined the largest tank size (in gallons) of each of these massive aquariums to compare them. The largest aquarium tank is the only one that is counted, even though most aquariums have many tanks and a considerably larger total amount of water. Thus, the world's largest aquariums are listed below.

Here are the Largest Aquariums in the World

The only organization that houses whale sharks outside of Asia is the Georgia Aquarium.

In the Ocean Voyager display, the sharks are housed in a massive 24 million liter (6.3 million gallon) tank. The Georgia Aquarium's choice to keep whale sharks in its care has generated debate. The deaths of two of the whale sharks that were originally acquired increased worries about maintaining the whale sharks in captivity.
